This  year long course will examine the first half of the book of Melakhim (Kings) using a literary-theological lens to uncover both the local meaning of each chapter and narrative and the overarching messages of this book full of highs and lows of Israelite history. We will engage in close readings of the narratives and make use of traditional and modern studies of this historical-theological sefer.

Rabbi Nathaniel Helfgot is rabbi of Congregation Netivot Shalom in Teaneck, NJ and serves on both the Tanakh and Toprah She Baal peh departments at SAR High School in NYC. He is also a senior scholar at its affiliated Machon Siach think tank for educational projects.
