Speaker Profile Dr. Brian Berger

Dr. Brian Berger is the Physician Leader in the Department of Continuing Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care at Mackenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill and is in charge of the Palliative Care Unit. He is also a family physician with a large community-based palliative care practice. He has addressed several national and international conferences on end-of-life care, with a special focus on communication at the end of life. Dr. Berger feels that patients, staff, and families must work as a team to help provide a peaceful and comfortable milieu for dying patients.

Dr. Berger received his medical degree at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and is a certificant of the College of Family Physicians of Canada as well as the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He completed the Physician Palliative Care Training Program at McMaster University and the Physician Palliative Care Sabbatical at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
