John Moscowitz, Senior Rabbi at Holy Blossom Temple, was ordained as a rabbi at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in 1982. Subsequent to ordination, Rabbi Moscowitz studied History in graduate school at the University of California, Los Angeles. Rabbi Moscowitz moved to Toronto in 1987, and served as Associate Rabbi at Holy Blossom until June 2000, when he succeeded Rabbi Dow Marmur as Senior Rabbi.
In the year 2000, Rabbi Moscowitz challenged Holy Blossom Temple to look toward its future, and renew itself spiritually, physically and more. The current renewal project of the congregation therefore will plan Holy Blossom Temple's future not simply in terms of physical space, but also in terms of what a liberal congregation might look like now at the beginning of the 21 st century. Rabbi Moscowitz's areas of intellectual interest include Rabbinics and the dilemmas of Jewish Modernity.
Outside of Holy Blossom Temple, Rabbi Moscowitz has served on various boards -- including the Executive Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Toronto, MAZON Canada, the National Social Action Committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress and more. Rabbi Moscowitz is a rabbinic fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, Jerusalem.
