Speaker Profile Dr. Yehudah Mirsky

Yehudah Mirsky is professor of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis, and as well a member of the faculty of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies. He teaches courses on the history of Israel on Zionism, on Jewish intellectual history, and on human rights.  

He worked in Washington for a number of years on Capitol Hill, at a think tank, and served in the Clinton Administration as special advisor in the US State Department's human rights bureau.   After the attacks of 9-11 he was a chaplain for the Red Cross.

He has written on religion, politics and culture for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic, The Daily Beast, The American Interest, Dissent and The Economist and many other publications. His Rav Kook: Mystic in a Time of Revolution was published in 2014 by Yale University Press and was awarded the Jewish Book Council’s Choice Prize.  His Torwards the Mystical Experience of Modernity: The Making of Rav Kook, 1865-1904 is forthcoming from Academic Studies Press.
