Rabbi Michael Whitman is the spiritual leader of ADATH (Adath Israel Poale Zedek Anshei Ozeroff Synagogue) in Montreal, Quebec since August, 2001. He is also a Sessional Lecturer at McGill University Faculty of Law, and creator of its Talmudic Law Moot Court Competition. Rabbi Whitman serves the community in many ways, including: an active role at Auberge Shalom…pour femmes, Maison Shalom, Baron de Hirsch Cemetery, Cote St. Luc / Hampstead / Snowdon Eruv, author of and advocate for the Halachic Prenup for Canada, Yosheiv Rosh of the RCA (Rabbinical Council of America) Conversion Program – Montreal Region, and Former Regional Vice President of the RCA. In June, 2016, he received the Rabbi Jacob and Deborah Rubenstein Memorial Award for Excellence in Rabbinic Leadership, awarded by the RCA and Young Israel of Scarsdale.
Rabbi Whitman served for fourteen years as the rabbi of Young Israel of New Haven and Young Israel House (Kosher Kitchen) at Yale University. During that time, he served as the orthodox rabbi of the Slifka Center, and taught at Yale University Law School.
