Eugene Korn is a scholar in the areas of Jewish ethics, Jewish-Christian relations, and Israel. He earned a doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University and was ordained by the Israeli Rabbinate.
Dr. Korn is presently National Director of Jewish Affairs at the American Jewish Congress, Adjunct Professor of Jewish Thought in the Department of Christian-Jewish Studies at Seton Hall University, and editor of The Edah Journal-A Forum for Modern Orthodox Discourse. He has taught at Columbia and Yeshiva Universities, and previously was Judaic Scholar at the Jewish Federation at Metrowest (N.J.), and Director of Leadership Education and Development at the Shalom Hartman Institute of Jerusalem.
At AJCongress Rabbi Korn is responsible for programs in interfaith relations and Jewish identity. He has been a member of the executive committee of the International Jewish Committee on Interrelgious Consultations, the highest Jewish body responsible for Jewish-Vatican relations in the Diaspora. In the past five years he lectured widely on Jewish-Christian relations. He has been quoted extensively regarding Jewish-Christian affairs in the national and Jewish media and appeared on numerous national television news programs. He also directed the publication of a number of monographs regarding Israel, Christians in the Middle East and anti-Semitism. As Director of Leadership Education and Training at the Hartman Institute, Dr. Korn was responsible for educational programs for visiting rabbis, academics, Christian clerics, American Jewish community leaders, and students. He has designed courses in Jewish thought, ethics and Jewish law, and taught Wexner Fellows and Jewish communal leaders.
Dr. Korn recently co-edited two books on Jewish-Christian relations, End of Exile by James Parkes and Two Faiths, One Covenant? (Roman and Littlefield), authored a monograph, Land and Covenant: The Religious Significance of the State of Israel ., and is currently writing Understanding Israel-An Introduction (Jewish Lights) and researching a book on the significance of Tzelem Elokim (Image of God) in Jewish tradition. He has published numerous scholarly essays on Jewish ethics and law, Jewish-Christian relations, Jewish attitudes toward non-Jewish cultures, Israel and religious tradition, pluralism, religious extremism and Jewish values, and business ethics. He also writes book reviews on theological works and op-ed essays that appear frequently in the Chicago Sun-Times, Religion News Service, the Bergen Record, The (NY) Jewish Week, The Forward, The NJ Jewish News, and The Bergen Jewish Standard.
Dr. Korn is a popular speaker who has spoken in universities, synagogues, churches and communal organizations in America, Canada, Europe and Israel. He lived in Israel from 1992-1996, is fluent in Hebrew and has extensive knowledge of Israeli culture and society.
