Rabbi Dr. Howard Apfel received his rabbin ic ordination from RIETS in 2003 . He has served as a rebbi in YUHSB for the past three years . He currently teaches a bi-weekly class on Medical Halacha at Yeshiva University and has published many contemporary halacha related articles. Previously, Rabbi Apfel had been a maggid shiur at Yeshivot Mevaseret and Torat Shraga in Israel. He has also taught bioethics courses at the Yeshiva University Gruss Kollel in Jerusalem, at Landers College for Men and has given a shiur on Hilchot Shabbat as it relates to physicians at the Yeshiva University Albert Einstein College of Medicine .
In addition Rabbi Apfel is a board certified pediatric cardiologist at Columbia University Medical Center. He received his medical degree Summa Cum Laude from the State University of New York, Downstate in 1989, and completed his residency at Schneider Children's hospital. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Babies and Children's Hospital of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and specializes in congenital heart disease. He has published numerous peer reviewed articles related to pediatric cardiology in various medical journals .
Rabbi Apfel currently resides in Bergenfield, NJ with his wife Naomi , they have seven children.
