The Book of Ecclesiastes (Kohelet in Hebrew) is arguably the apex of Biblical wisdom, the closest book in the Hebrew Bible to what we call philosophy. Ecclesiastes explores the nature of the human condition with an audacity and immediacy that suggests it could have been written today, with a profundity that makes it feel timeless. Stylistically, Ecclesiastes can feel repetitive and meandering to the reader. This series will bring out the brilliance of Kohelet’s thought by expounding the book both textually and topically, proceeding each week through the series of subjects including those listed below. The course will lead up to Sukkot, when Kohelet is read in synagogue.

Topics:

Tanach, Ketuvim, Kohelet
