e-TiM: The Halachik status of Swords of Iron: Milchmet Mitzvah or something else? And why it matters

Jewish law recognizes various types of wars, each with their own rules. A milchemet mitzvah, a war that is a mitzvah, is the category that is most obligating, including regarding who must participate. Possibly because of this, there are segments of the population who argue that the current war, "Swords of Iron", does not qualify as milchemet mitzvah. This talk will use one such shiur as a foil through which to examine the arguments and why I think it is unquestionably a milchemet mitzvah.

RABBI DR. ARI ZIVOTOFSKY is a professor of Neuroscience at Bar Ilan University. He is an expert in the laws and traditions of kosher animals.
