The Book of Eicha: A City and People in Mourning

Rabbi Nathaniel Helfgot

We will examine the elegies of the book of Eicha using the literary -theological lens of close readings and connections to the rest of Tanakh. We will use classical and modern commentaries in our learning of the five chapters of the scroll of Lamentations over the destruction of the first Temple and the suffering of and exile of the Jewish people from its land.

Rabbi Nathaniel Helfgot is rabbi of Congregation Netivot Shalom in Teaneck, NJ and serves on both the Tanakh and Toprah She Baal peh departments at SAR High School in NYC. He is also a senior scholar at its affiliated Machon Siach think tank for educational projects.
