Cantor Eric S. Freeman is the Associate Director of the Philip and Sarah Belz School of Jewish Music, (RIETS, Yeshiva University) and the Executive Vice President of the Cantorial Council of America. From 2003-2024 he served as cantor of the Lincoln Park Jewish Center (Yonkers NY). Since 2024 he has officiated for several shabbatot, Pesah and Succot for Park East Synagogue (Upper East Side, Manhattan). As cantor-in-residence, Cantor Freeman has lectured extensively about the roots of Ashkenazic Nusah, and also proper care and management of the voice. In January 2025, Cantor Freeman chanted the Kel Male Rachamim and Ani Maamin at the United Nations in commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Originally from Philadelphia, Eric began his Nusah education (prayer chant) and trained as a cantorial accompanist with Cantor Daniel Gildar a”h, before completing his studies at Yeshiva College and the Belz School. Eric is the accompanist for this generation’s preeminent chazzanim as well as an accomplished choral conductor. Most recently in 2025 and 2026, Eric was the accompanist for the gala cantorial concert held during Krakow’s annual Jewish Cultural Festival. Since 2000 he has directed the KAJ (Breuer’s) choir in Washington Heights.
