This five-part series will take place on Wednesdays at 8:00pm Eastern, starting May 4.

In this series leading up to Shavuot we will discuss the religious and ethical concepts of Judaism; their roots in biblical law and the oral tradition:

  • From Tanakh through the Talmud and Midrash
  • In the era of the Geonim (8-11th centuries), particularly Se`adyah Gaon (882-942)
  • In the era of the Rishonim (11th-15th centuries), particularly Maimonides (1035-1204)
  • Sefer HaChinukh (13th century); the classic formulation of ta`amei hamitzvot (rationales for the commandments)
  • A practical lesson in rationalizing mitzvot: Preparing for Shavuot
