Episode description
Kinah 7 takes a radically different approach: instead of cataloging Jewish sin, it puts God on trial. Rabbi Elazar HaKalir builds every stanza with the same structure, "How could you let this happen?", followed by "You didn't remember." Didn't remember the covenant with Abraham. Didn't remember the exodus. Didn't remember that we're your chosen people. The Kinah is an alphabetical acrostic where almost every word progresses through the Hebrew alphabet, showing how language itself breaks down when grief is this profound. The contrast is brutal: on one side, God's promises and miracles; on the other, the Jewish people enslaved by their oppressors. The Kinah asks the question that keeps people awake at night: How can the wicked triumph while the righteous suffer? It's not resignation. It's a refusal to pretend this makes sense.
